Our Stance on AI
AI, especially large language models, is already part of everyday life. In many ways, it mirrors what Google became years ago: a default we reach for when we want information, clarity, or help expressing ourselves. Used thoughtfully, AI can help people communicate more clearly, tighten their messaging, and better explain what they are trying to say.
At Politect, we acknowledge that reality. AI is not something we are trying to avoid or pretend does not exist. Using it to help structure an argument, improve wording, or clarify a point is normal and expected. Clear communication leads to better conversations, and better conversations are the foundation of a healthy community.
Where we take a clear stance is on how AI is used.
Politect is not a place to outsource thinking. Using AI to refine how you express an idea is very different from using it to generate opinions, arguments, or counterpoints you have not taken the time to understand yourself. When someone relies on AI to "win" an argument or to shortcut learning a topic, they are missing the core purpose of the platform.
This space is built around engagement and growth. That requires effort. It means reading, listening, questioning your own assumptions, and sometimes sitting with ideas you disagree with. Those moments are uncomfortable, but they are also where real understanding happens. If AI is doing the thinking for you, that process never really starts.
We believe AI works best as a supporting tool. It can help you organize thoughts you already have. It can help you say things more clearly or concisely. What it should not do is replace curiosity, research, or critical thinking.
Politect exists to encourage thoughtful discussion and genuine learning. The tools may evolve, but the responsibility to think, engage, and grow still belongs to the person behind the screen.
